Flames rising against a white intumescent-coated structural steel beam, the coating protecting the steel

We buysteel time.

Fire protection buys the minutes between steel losing strength and a building losing its people — measured, recorded, defensible.

Steel is strong
until it is hot.

Around 550°C an unprotected member can no longer carry what it was designed to hold. A fire resistance rating is the number of minutes we keep the steel below that line.

The thickness that buys those minutes is not a guess — it is calculated per member from the rating and the section factor, and issued by the coating manufacturer as a loading schedule. We apply to that schedule and prove it afterwards.

Why builders hand us the steel.

Schedule-first

Nothing is guessed — thickness comes off the manufacturer's loading schedule, per member.

Conditions gated

Substrate temperature, humidity and dew margin logged before any coat goes on.

Measured, member by member

DFT recorded against each member — not sampled by area, not reconstructed later.

System integrity

Primer, fire and finish kept as one compatible system, never mixed across brands.

Windows held

Recoat intervals and drying windows planned into the programme, not discovered on site.

Certifier-ready

Producer statements at completion, backed by the full measurement record.

RATING — WHAT IT BUYS

Buy the minutes back.

Move through the ratings. Illustrative only — your rating comes from the fire engineer; the thickness that delivers it comes from the manufacturer's loading schedule for your members.

60 minutes of rated protection

The coating reacts, expands and forms an insulating char layer across the section. The steel behind it stays below its limiting temperature for the rated period, so the member keeps carrying load while the building empties.

Char thickness shown is schematic, recorded against each member on the QA schedule in practice.

QA — THE RECORD

A coating you can't prove is a coating that didn't happen.

Once the ceiling goes in, nobody can inspect fire protection again. What survives is the record — which member, what thickness, measured with what, calibrated when. That record is what the certifier signs against.

Send us the drawings.
We'll tell you what's missing.

Email the fire report, the structural drawings with the steel schedule, and the coatings specification. Partial is fine — we reply with what's missing rather than sitting on it.
